On Purpose

What I learned today

Cimg0728 Long day today.  Fifteen year old left for Alaska. I was so excited for him.  We helped him raise money, gather necessary supplies and prayed for this opportunity with him.  Then he left and instantly it was as if I had been punched in the stomach.  It’s going to be weird for the next 10 days, something will be missing from my world, every single second.  Ugh.

My good friend Marina aka Rock the Desert reminded me of how much he is going to grow.  Her son is in Tanzania on a Mission Trip, I am sure Alaska is sounding pretty great to her at this point.

Then tonight we went to see the movie Speed Racer.  It really wasn’t so good for me.  Two hours and five minutes of being inside a video game.  We went to a supper cinema, so eating while being in a virtual race track left me a little nauseous.  The only redeeming thing for me about the movie was actually quite a deep revelation.

One racing character says to another driver "You don’t climb in the car because you want to drive, you do it because you’re driven."  I realized that I don’t climb in my big rolling office chair because I want to write, I do it because it was written.

A long time ago, God planned for me to be a writer. For me to write His Word.  He numbered all my days and everything that would happen.  He also planned for my son to be gone for 10 days to bless children in Alaska with his gifts.

I only need to remember that God’s love for us was written on our hearts a long time ago and the next ten days will be just fine.

  1. Amen. He is in God’s plan and we will be praying for him and the team too. I thought Mexico was hard last year for Alex, I know what it feels like, but so much further away. She really wishes she hadn’t missed the sign up for a missions trip this year. It changed her. Each time our kids serve in any capacity, it shows them a little of Jesus and hopefully they allow Him to work through them.
See you when we sing! Can’t wait!

I’m so bummed I didn’t get to go. I know it will be a great experience for them and we’re praying!

  3. I really wish I had gone on my first mission trip a lot earlier than I did at 31. I can’t imagine how different I would be now. And Alaska… wow! That’s on my life list… probably multiple times!
