Tackle it Tuesday (Social Media)

This week I am tackling neglected aspects of social media.  My list is growing so long of new notes, applications, SEO’s and blog carnivals that if I don’t integrate some of this now, it will be lost in the blogosphere forever.

Securing your domain name is imperative.  You might think Audra Krell would be easy to get, but there are other Audra Krell’s in the world.  Once you secure it, make sure that if someone types in your name without the "www" that it will still point to your site.  Right now, if you type in www.audrakrell.com you are good to go, but if you just type audrakrell.com, there is a problem.  I have to get this fixed today. I use and recommend Go Daddy.

We have an old laptop we keep because our entire iTunes library is on it.  I’m going to set it up in the kitchen today, so that at any time, any of the five of us can access the family calendar at Google.  Even our nine year old can open this application and add his activities.  My husband can access it at work and the other two boys can add things at any time. If I am out and about, I can access it from my phone, before I over commit! Getting it set up is a priority today.  Google Documents are free and I highly recommend them for all families, even those with young children because it’s great for mom or dad to be able to access one calendar, from the office.  It’s a great way for extended families to stay in touch too, you could enter family vacations and big activities like ball games, family reunions and concerts.

Finally for today, I am going to open a YouVersion account.  It’s a free, online bible community and social networking site.  Check it out, you’ll be surprised at the powerful things you can share with Christians around the world.

Well that’s enough of a tackle for today and hopefully I won’t have to tackle any of our boys, just to get some computer time!
