On Purpose

Now You Know

Works for Me Wednesday  Today I peeled a banana from the bottom and it still had strings. Now you know.

I've been very concerned lately with Aspartame and the effects it has on women especially. Some people are drinking a case a day of diet soda. A case.

Aspartame is toxic. When we drink large amounts of Aspartame is causes the body to produce excess glutamate, which is heavily linked to cancer growth. Glutamate is also responsible for the addiction you feel when you can't stop drinking the diet sodas.  Addiction makes us feel hopeless.

I've learned a lot of things in my 38 years. One thing I've learned in the past several years, is that addiction is addiction. So yes, we do need a 12 step program to fight Aspartame Addiction, it's the new AA. You may not be able to make the choice to stop drinking the diet soda, but you can make the choice to get help. Now you know.

There is hope. And hope always works for me.

Email me if you need information on where to get help.

Then head over to Rocks in My Dryer to see what works for everyone else.

  1. A case a day? Oh wow. I’ve been able to cut back on my diet pop addiction. So far it’s working only to have it when we eat out. Which is maybe 1 or 2 times a week. I’m going to work on cutting back on that too. I know it’s bad. It just tastes so good. 🙂

i know! huh! aspartame is the new acceptable drug! i just realized i think this year that it is a trigger for my headaches too.
sunday was great! thanks for leading up there.

  3. Hi Audra,
Hope…what a great word! Something I never want to lose in my life…
I’m not a real soda drinker now, although I used to be – not the diet type though. Giving it up a few years back was hard. I felt that I “needed” it. Water is now my drink of choice (well, that and coffee!).

  4. Wow thats a lot of soda. I’m a coffee drinker, not that thats much better.

  5. I’ve always been afraid of it and I don’t drink diet drinks! I heard something about it killing rats when I was young and that’s all it took for me! (I don’t know if that’s true.)

  6. Did you know aspartame, when it reaches body temperature, converts to a substance much like formaldehyde? Tons of guys in the Gulf war of the 80’s got really sick from sodas being dropped into the hot desert. I had a horrible reaction from putting aspartame in coffee.
Watch out for everything that says, “Sugar Free” or “Diet.”
What’s sold to us as “food” isn’t always fit for human consumption. Look carefully. The FDA wears no clothes.
    Preach it, sistah!

  7. My main point here is to let people know that there is help, there is hope. Aspartame addicts know when they have a problem, but believe that since it’s not alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, etc, that there is nowhere to get help. As I said before, please understand that addiction is addiction, whatever the cause, the result is the same, your life being controlled by the chemical need for an outside substance or even way of thinking.
Also, once formaldehyde enters your body, it can take a lifetime to leave, and in a lot of cases, it never does. Organs bathed in that much formaldyhyde can only lead to one place, and Cancer isn’t good.

  8. Oh, my gosh, Audra, the banana thing is so funny, because today I tried that, too! You are right…the danged strings are still there. I posted today about getting several bunches of bananas (and some apples and pears) free from my doctor!

  9. Thanks for getting the word out about Aspartame. I read a list once where it was on a goverment list of toxic chemicals. One of the side effects of taking it? Death. That’ll get ya thinkin, huh? It’s no longer allowed in our house, but I am the 12 step program around here! I just stopped buying any of it for anyone and told them (ok, told boyfriend) he’s had his last Diet Coke. That’s as tough as I had to get, thankfully!

  10. Water, Water, Water! We drink loads of it in this family. And by getting water at restaurants, we save $4 to $8 on a meal!!!
