On Purpose

Last Minute – Really?

It's 8:00 a.m. on December 3rd.

In the past 33 days I have:

  • Completed a 55,000 word novel
  • Completed 90% of my Christmas Shopping
  • Kept the boys in clean clothes, daily school and sports uniforms included
  • Nursed a very sick 12 year old back to health
  • Wrestled with faith and fear that my son had a heart problem (It's all good, it's as big as ever!)
  • Made daily trips to the grocery store trying to keep 3 teen boys from starving
  • Consumed 34 Starbucks Chai tea lattes. (There was a day when I needed two. Sue me.)

So on this Friday morning I decided to settle down for a long winter's nap.

Thought I'd check my email first.

When what to my wandering eyes did appear?

An Ad saying "we're down to the last minute here".

I sprang to my purse and tore open the sash

only to find I'm clean out of cash.

Seems I'd been pilfered by a teen herd

but never fear folks, it's only December 3rd!

Seriously, retail giants and elves alike; I'm not buying this (pun intended).

We are not down to the last minute.

I will not succumb to a false sense of urgency. And neither should you.

Relax and enjoy the season. It's only beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

    That’s great!

  2. Thanks Bessie! Merry Christmas!

  3. Wonderful. Won’t be suing you, as I’ve had a few caffeinated beverages, myself. šŸ˜‰

  4. Thanks Gretchen. My winter's nap will go better knowing there is no pending litigation.

  5. Wow, you rock, Audra! I hope your December is as restful as your November was chock-full. šŸ˜€

  6. Hi JP, Thanks, that would be so lovely! Here's wishing you a wonderful, relaxing, Christ filled season.

  7. You’ve been busy! And super job on the novel. šŸ™‚

  8. Audra…
You HAVE been busy the last 33 days (and I completely understand on that grocery store thing!).
Here’s to a Christmas season that’s also about slowing down, and really marveling in the beauty of what this time of year is all about…

  9. @Brock Thanks for being here and for the congrats on the novel. How goes everything for you?
@Lance Wishing you, your wife and all of your hungry teens a glorious Christmas!

  10. Great post Audra…and congrats on that 55,000 words for the Nanowrite. Wow, you certainly do seem to have everything under control and the right Christmas spirit to go with it! I’m relieved to hear that your 12 year old is ok.

  11. Going pretty well, Audra. Just started the first chapter of a novel, but doing it mostly for the process of learning (no bestseller ambition driving this one…okay, maybe a tiny ambition (grin)). Going through James Scott Bell’s Plot & Structure book as a guide. Lots to learn! šŸ™‚

  12. You are oh so right and just too funny! I hope you have a wonderful season, and I can’t wait to read your books. šŸ™‚

  13. Brock – Love that you are learning on the job. No better way! Best of luck with your new novel. Maybe I'll get to see some of it, or better yet we can do a swap when I'm up there in February? I'm going to WFTS.

  14. Thank you Ginger! Blessings to you and yours for the best Christmas ever!

  15. Awesome to hear you’re making the conference! I sure hope to make it. I need to roll a bunch of pennies though. šŸ™‚

  16. Super post. I confess, I have succumbed to the false sense of urgency. I am a slave to my to do list. Thanks for this post. It was great! Fun and Honest. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
